Marantz Model 40n Streaming Amplifier HEOS App

HEOS App

HEOS was introduced in 2014 as the streaming platform for Denon and Marantz products, and through its streamlined app you can control multiple HEOS products and – when required – combine them in the same zone. The HEOS app (iOS and Android) offers a relatively broad selection of streaming services, Internet radio and uPnP playback over your home network or via its rear USB port.

Audiophiles will be happy to see Tidal (Amazon Music, Deezer and Napster are other choices), but Qobuz is missing. Spotify Connect and AirPlay 2, meanwhile, allow you to use other services outside of the HEOS app. Bluetooth is an option, but only the base SBC codec is supported. In the app you can also control the physical inputs and, for example, stream the output of a connected turntable or other source to another HEOS product. Although the app's 'look and feel' can seem a little austere – Tidal playlists are displayed with tiny thumbnails, even on a tablet – it's otherwise well thought-out and easy to use.
