Yamaha R-N2000A Network Receiver The Musiccast Legacy

The Musiccast Legacy

If you have a feeling MusicCast has been around for a while, you're not wrong. But not right either. Originally, MusicCast was used for the MCX-2000 hard disc player and server. It was multiroom, as it could connect to compatible networked players in up to five wireless zones, which in 2006 was astounding. However, the current MusicCast streaming platform (and app interface), which features on a wide range of Yamaha products, is unrelated.

It launched in 2015, and while little functionality has been added in the past eight years, in 2022 the MusicCast software received a major make-over. Retaining elements that made the platform unique, such as its high degree of customisation and support for 'hi-res' audio, it also introduced a brand-new look with the ability to create shortcuts to various settings and media. The old version was already very intuitive, but the latest MusicCast Controller app has a cleaned-up interface that sits nicely on a tablet or smartphone. The user can stream from multiple network-connected sources or simply select a physical input on the hardware. As the platform is highly integrated, you can stream from a connected turntable or TV (audio) to a MusicCast speaker or compatible unit in another room. It's a dependable app, offering good usability and stability.
