Monitor Audio Bronze 50 7G loudspeaker Bronze age
Monitor Audio’s Bronze series has been the brand’s entry-level stalwart for more than two decades, evolving every five or so years with a new ‘generation’. While this means improvements to driver and cabinet technologies, it also means changes to the speaker family as a whole to reflect shifts in the affordable hi-fi and home cinema markets. The Bronze 7G series appears markedly streamlined compared to its 6G forebear, the number of models culled from eight to five. Gone is a dedicated subwoofer, as Monitor Audio now sells its Anthra and Vestra series.
The manufacturer has also ‘ditched’ the bi/dipole ‘FX’ model, for surround systems, in favour of a slim Bronze On-Wall suited to both stereo and multichannel use. Most obviously, though, there is only one standmount and one floorstander in the lineup, compared to the two-prong approach of the 6G series, where the Bronze 50 was joined by larger Bronze 100 standmount and 200 floorstanding models [HFN Aug ’20 & Jun ’21], and the Bronze 300 played second fiddle to the Bronze 500 flagship.
