Bluesound Node Icon streamer/DAC/preamp Bluesound app

In 2024, BluOS received a major update to version 4.0 which brought a redesigned mobile app. The main functions were reorganised into five sections, accessible via icons along the bottom of a smartphone screen or the left side of a tablet display. However, on Windows and macOS, the apps still rely on the older interface. Like the restyled interfaces Sonos and HEOS introduced in 2024, there’s a ‘Home’ screen you can customise – to a limited extent.

The second section, ‘Favourites’, displays your preferred tracks, albums and playlists from a source (such as Qobuz or your own library), selected via a dropdown menu. The ‘Players’ screen opens the multiroom panel, allowing you to switch between or combine BluOS devices, while ‘Music Sources’ offers the most flexibility, letting you choose a physical input (such as HDMI eARC) or a music service. The selected source will be played on the streamer and any other BluOS device it is grouped with. There’s excellent support for hi-res files, with the Node Icon being one of the first BluOS products capable of DSD playback.
